Situation Analysis

Bharti's Airtel's acquisition of Zain Africa is one of the largest ever cross-border deals in the emerging markets with a reported value of in excess of $9 billion. The acquisition of Zain Africa included the acquisition of Zain Nigeria, of which Broad Communications, a company owned, controlled and managed by Mr. Oba Otudeko and his family, is one of the founding shareholders.

The deal between Broad and Bharti involved the settlement of the well publicised ongoing legal disputes relating to Zain Nigeria, the establishment of a working relationship between the parties going forward and the appointment of Mr Otudeko as the Chairman of Zain Nigeria.
