Michael Sutcliffe has extensive experience in the energy industry, particularly in the power sector. He also has experience in the water, waste, mining and petrochemical sectors. He has acted on behalf of many of the major European utilities and, in the U.K., for National Power, PowerGen, Scottish and Southern Energy, and nine of the 12 Regional Electricity Companies, among others.
Prior to re-joining Fieldstone, Mr. Sutcliffe was head of the Global Energy Group at Schroders, where he was involved in some of Europe’s largest power deals, including advising National Power on the sale of 4,000 megawatts of plant power to the Energy Group; advising on the (U.S.) $1 billion Tejo Energia transaction; and advising on PowerGen’s (U.S.) $850 million Tapada project.
Prior to Schroders, Mr. Sutcliffe served as Managing Director of Europe for Fieldstone. During this time, he advised on most of first wave of IPPs in the U.K., including limited-recourse financings for the Keadby, Corby, and Peterborough power plants, as well as the acquisition and financing of the Kilroot and Belfast West power plants. Mr. Sutcliffe holds a BSc from Exeter University and was one of Fieldstone’s founding members.
